every year for the thanksgiving i make a cake. not just any cake. a gooey cake.
a divine concoction made of cream cheese, powdered sugar, and butter golden recipe mix.
this year the cake came out EXTRA special because i had a little helper in the kitchen.
samirah stood on a chair next to me the entire time carefully examining and commenting on my every move. "i do dat mommy!" and "do dat" she did.
with her little hands in mine we cracked eggs, sifted powdered sugar, mixed the batter, and then licked the utensils.
when the timer buzzed she ran into the living room to call her sister. nylah ignored her-laying on the couch watching Your Baby Can Read with her papa was waaaaaaay more interesting.
her sister's indifference didn't phase her. she skipped back into the kitchen with the same amount of enthusiasm and said to me in her perfect little voice, "hers doesn't want any cake mom! hers said lay-ler."
i looked down at her little face and then over at my husband on the couch with my littlest doll laying across his chest and
at that very moment i thanked the Lord.

This is amazing! Thank you for that! What a wonderful vision.... keep this going!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm sitting her crying at my desk. I love that age when cracking an egg is like getting the best toy ever.
